Plan for a productive summer for your children

In a recent article in the Philadelphia Bulletin, they explore some tactics that parents can implement so that your children can make the most of their summer plans. These tips go across the board, intact families, divorced families or never married parents.

Chores - helps to keep your children on a schedule, provides a way for them to earn an allowance and teaches them responsibility as well as a work ethic. Recommends keeping a chart of the chores and time spent.

Summer Jobs - should be age appropriate and limit the hours to a reasonable level. Volunteering or an internship might be a good idea.

Enrichment Opportunities - Take your kids to public libraries, museums, parks and other cultural attractions, there are many specials for children over the summer.

Seamless Summer Learning - Keep your kids moving forward on their studies, just cause the school year is over doesn't mean they have to put a full halt on learning.

Sleep Schedules - Keep a normal sleep schedule, don't give into the temptation to let your kids stay up to all hours, otherwise when it is time to get back to school they may struggle to adjust.

Avoid Over-Scheduling - Remember they are kids, let them enjoy their break! Don't be the hyperactive parent whose child never gets a break.
